Mini COP 15

The UN climate conference COP 15 will take place in Copenhagen in December 2009. The main goal for this conference is to conclude the discussion about the climate programme after the end of the Kyoto Protocol. Here the world leaders will discuss the possible actions for saving and preserving the environment. Latvia is participating in these events and is developing possible plans and solutions for the environmental problems. One way to put these problems on the map is to introduce them to the Latvian youth. MINI COP 15 is a conference-discussion for young people, where they will be able to create and develop their solutions to the problems caused by global warming.

MINI COP 15 will take place in Riga, in the Riga Dome assembly hall, on 11th November. The participants will be Latvian high school students who are interested in environmental and climate changes. The students will form different work groups and each one of them will address a certain climate problem. After discussions, students will present their solutions to these problems.

The main goal of this conference is to bring young Latvians’ attention to the seriousness of the problems caused by global warming. The discussion can encourage them to analyse these problems in Latvia and the world and think of ways to solve them. MINI COP 15 will give the participants a chance to be the chairperson of the conference and later to use their theoretical knowledge and experience when leading other similar conferences.
